Qconferencing hosting tele-consultation services for Oncology

26 Jan 2011

New HD video conferencing service to deliver tele-consults Oncology

Starting the 1st of january 60 Hospitals are using the video conferencing services of Qconferencing within the Oncology departments to discuss patient cases.

The Integraal Kankercentrum Nederland (IKNL) supports hospitals in the Netherlands to use videoconferencing for tele-consults between Oncology specialists and related disciplines. The idea is to increase efficiency, the oncologist does not need to travel any longer to other hospitals to discuss patient cases. Also the frequency with which difficult patient cases will be discussed has increased from monthly to weekly.

IKNL started this service in 2008 using Surfcontact, the video conferencing services provided by Surfnet. The surfnet foundation develops innovative ICT solutions which are handed over to the market after the initial pilot fase. IKNL choose Qconferencing as the new videoconferencing service provider for two reasons. Qconferencing has a lot of experience and expertise in the field of video conferencing in the medical field and Qconferencing is professional partner of LifeSize. The LifeSize video conferencing products are used a lot in the dutch hospitals due to the high picture quality.

The migration of the video services for over 60 hospitals from Surfnet to Qconferencing has taken place. In good cooperation with Surfnet the transition of services took place with complete number portability. The numbers of the individual endpoints and the numbers of the virtual meeting rooms including pincodes, all part of the so called "Global Dialling Scheme", remained unchanged which allowed for a quick migration without much disturbance for the end users at the hospitals.
